Rivian's R2 Crossover Tops Sales, Prompting Another Outlook Raise

Rivian's R2 Crossover Tops Sales, Prompting Another Outlook Raise

Rivian said its R2 sport‑utility vehicle has risen to become the firm’s best‑selling model, leading to a second upward adjustment of its financial outlook for the year.

Launched earlier this year, the R2 aims at a wider price bracket than the flagship R1 lineup, featuring a smaller size and a reduced base price that has appealed to price‑sensitive buyers.

Following an initial slow rollout, quarterly sales figures revealed the R2 outselling the R1 Tough and R1 S during the same timeframe, lifting overall deliveries beyond analysts’ forecasts.

This heightened demand enabled Rivian to lift its revenue projection for the current fiscal year, representing the second instance the company has revised its guidance since early 2024.

Analysts point out that the update mirrors both the R2’s market attractiveness and Rivian’s advances in scaling output at its Normal, Illinois facility, where production has been climbing steadily.

The upgraded outlook arrives as the wider electric‑vehicle sector experiences a blend of optimism and challenges, with supply‑chain bottlenecks loosening even as rivalry sharpens.

Investors reacted favorably, seeing the stock rise following the earnings announcement, while a number of analysts lifted their price targets.

Going forward, Rivian intends to broaden the R2 range with extra battery choices and a possible sport‑back version, and is also gearing up for the debut of its long‑range pickup slated for later next year.

Should the R2 keep fueling volume expansion, the automaker may edge nearer to profitability and cement its standing among the limited U.S. EV manufacturers that have attained significant scale.
