Joby Aviation reported that its electric vertical‑takeoff‑and‑landing (eVTOL) craft successfully performed an entirely autonomous flight from California to North Carolina, marking the company's inaugural such feat and setting a significant milestone for the wider eVTOL industry.

The plane made the coast‑to‑coast passage without any onboard pilot, depending on combined navigation, sensing and control software that steered it from departure to touchdown. The test proved that its electric propulsion and battery pack are capable of supporting extended-range missions while delivering the accuracy demanded by autonomous operation.
