IMAX to Re‑Release Nolan’s Classic Thriller ‘The Prestige’

Warner Bros. revealed that Christopher Nolan’s 2006 mystery drama The Prestige is slated for a limited IMAX re‑release later this year, joining the expanding lineup of Nolan titles presented in the premium format.

Set in turn‑of‑the‑century London, the original film tracks competing stage magicians and features Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Scarlett Johansson. Its complex storyline and bold visual design garnered critical acclaim and a loyal following, positioning it as an ideal choice for a high‑resolution showing.

IMAX presentations will deliver a bigger, curved screen and sharper image quality—attributes Nolan has consistently advocated for his later blockbusters like Interstellar and Dunkirk. While The Prestige was originally captured on 35mm film, the upcoming version will be digitally remastered to suit the format’s greater pixel density and immersive audio.

This decision mirrors a wider industry pattern of re‑examining recent classics with modern technology, giving viewers a chance to enjoy known narratives in a new guise. For fans of Nolan, the IMAX launch offers a way to view the director’s early film through the same visual framework used for his newer spectacles.

Cinema operators are scheduling special event showings, and the re‑release could lift ticket sales during a typically quiet season. Should audience reaction be robust, studios might pursue comparable upgrades for additional Nolan titles, further narrowing the gap between current blockbusters and refreshed early‑2000s releases.
