Google Launches Live Avatar for Gemini 3.8, Bringing Visuals to AI Conversations

Google has unveiled an additional visual dimension for its Gemini 3.8 chat model, enabling users to engage with an animated avatar that reflects the AI’s spoken replies instantly. The “Live Avatar” capability aligns lip motion and facial cues with the model’s output, delivering a richer conversational experience.

Currently restricted to Gemini platform users, the upgrade introduces a lively visual element to the previously text‑only exchange. While the AI formulates responses, the avatar’s mouth moves in tandem with the synthetic voice, and its facial expressions change to signal emphasis, curiosity or acknowledgement, providing a hint of non‑verbal interaction.

The rollout aligns with a wider industry shift toward giving AI a human‑like presence to render conversations more natural.
