Bolivian Sanctuary Produces First New Wild‑Cat Species in More Than a Hundred Years
Researchers have formally identified a new wild‑cat species that had been hidden inside a Bolivian wildlife sanctuary, representing the first Felidae addition in over a century.
The creature, a small spotted cat, had been seen by sanctuary personnel for years and was thought to be a form of a known species. However, careful morphological study uncovered unique fur markings, ear contours, and skull dimensions that differentiate it from its closest kin.
