Automattic appoints WordPress VIP CFO as temporary finance head amid executive turnover
Automattic, which owns WordPress.com, WooCommerce and a range of publishing services, announced it has named an interim chief financial officer after several senior finance leaders recently left.
Jeremy Klaperman, presently the chief financial officer of Automattic’s WordPress VIP Enterprise unit, will assume the interim CFO position as the board begins looking for a permanent successor.
The decision to elevate Klaperman underscores Automattic’s desire for internal continuity amid the shift. The WordPress VIP Enterprise division, delivering premium hosting and support to major publishers, has long been a financial pillar for the company, and its CFO’s knowledge of the wider corporate finance arena should ease the transition.
While Automattic did not explain why the executives departed, the timing highlights the difficulty of steering swift growth in a tech‑centric, remote‑first firm. Over recent years the company has significantly broadened its product suite and worldwide presence, heightening the demand for consistent financial governance.
Analysts point out that elevating an internal leader signals trust in current talent and can keep momentum alive on major projects, including the continued evolution of the Gutenberg editor and the growth of the WooCommerce ecosystem.
Although Klaperman’s temporary placement offers immediate stability, the board is anticipated to launch a comprehensive external hunt for a permanent CFO. The choice made in that process may influence Automattic’s strategic path, particularly as it weighs possible public‑market moves and keeps funding open‑source initiatives.
Investors, partners and other stakeholders will monitor the shift closely. Ensuring a smooth handover of financial leadership is vital to preserve confidence in Automattic’s fiscal stability and its capacity to finance upcoming product innovations.
