Apple Targets 2027 Debut of $1,000 Home Robot Capable of FaceTime and Light Management

Apple is gearing up to break into consumer robotics with a device planned for a 2027 launch, priced around $1,000. Insiders describe the robot as a mobile home companion that can navigate on its own, join FaceTime calls for its user, and switch on lights when it senses someone entering a room.

John Ternus, who assumed the role of Apple’s chief executive earlier this year, has indicated a strategic pivot toward bolstering the firm’s footprint in the connected‑home arena. Under his direction, engineers have sped up development of a robot platform that leverages Apple’s HomeKit framework, seeking to merge smooth video calling with useful automation functions.

The gadget’s primary features draw on technologies already present in Apple’s lineup. Its FaceTime capability will probably use the same camera and audio‑processing architecture that powers iPhones and Macs, while its light‑control function will tap into Apple’s smart‑lighting standards. By combining motion sensors with room‑wide awareness, the robot can spot occupants and trigger illumination without user intervention.

Analysts interpret the initiative as Apple’s response to rising interest in household robots from rivals like Amazon and Google, which have rolled out limited‑function devices for security and assistance. Although Apple has not released detailed specs, the anticipated price tag points to a premium offering aimed at early adopters rather than a mass‑market product. The company’s strong hardware‑software integration could provide an advantage in reliability and user experience.

Looking forward, Apple is likely to enhance the robot’s abilities via software updates and may broaden its duties to cover other smart‑home tasks such as thermostat adjustments or media playback. The 2027 release window gives the company sufficient time to tackle safety, privacy and regulatory issues that typically accompany autonomous devices. If it succeeds, the robot could serve as a flagship illustration of Apple’s larger vision for a more connected, voice‑controlled home.
