Apple admits inner-screen defect in iPhone Duo amid crack complaints

Apple publicly confirmed that its recently launched iPhone Duo suffers from a flaw in its inner display, following numerous user reports of cracked screens and a noticeable bright line extending from the middle of the panel to the right side.

Affected users say the outer glass stays whole, but the LCD or OLED layer beneath develops a crack, frequently paired with a glowing streak that appears when the device is turned on. This behavior differs from ordinary external screen damage, implying a structural weakness in the assembly rather than simple impact.

Speaking to Bloomberg and 9to5Mac, Apple acknowledged “an issue impacting the inner display” on a “small number of” iPhone Duo units. While it did not disclose how many phones are involved nor declare a formal recall, the firm said it is probing the cause and will coordinate with its service network to handle any reported cases.

Introduced earlier this year as Apple’s entry into the high‑end dual‑camera segment, the iPhone Duo commands a price that ranks it among the brand’s priciest phones. Past hardware hiccups—like the “bendgate” issue with the iPhone 6 and the glass‑shatter complaints for the iPhone X—demonstrate that even a meticulously designed lineup can suffer manufacturing flaws that affect consumer trust. Analysts point out that any repair or replacement scheme must weigh expenses, warranty terms, and Apple’s reputation for quality.

Going forward, Apple is anticipated to present a remediation strategy, potentially offering free repairs for impacted users or a software patch that reduces the visual defect. Both consumers and investors will scrutinize the company’s response, as the outcome will shape views on Apple’s quality‑control practices and its capacity to promptly address post‑launch problems in a fiercely competitive smartphone arena.
