AMD to Acquire AI Firm World Labs for $8.2 B, Adding Fei‑Fei Li to Executive Ranks

AMD said it has signed a definitive agreement to buy World Labs, the AI research company founded by Stanford professor Fei‑Fei Li, for roughly $8.2 billion in cash. The deal, slated to close later this year pending standard regulatory clearances, will also elevate Li to AMD’s executive vice president and chief scientist.

Founded in 2022, World Labs concentrates on building AI‑focused hardware and software platforms designed to simplify the rollout of large‑scale machine‑learning models. By merging its stack with AMD’s current GPU and CPU offerings, the aim is to provide a unified solution for data‑center clients that need to speed up AI tasks.
