Alphabet Expands AI-Driven Search Ads Globally as Core Ad Growth Slows

Alphabet Inc. announced that Google will roll out AI‑powered search advertising across the globe, a plan unveiled alongside its third‑quarter earnings report. The initiative arrives while the company contends with a slowdown in conventional ad sales, driving a move toward more automated, performance‑oriented offerings.

The earnings release showed Alphabet’s revenue climbing 25% year over year to $127.6 billion. Although total earnings grew, the division that fuels the bulk of Google’s ad business displayed weaker momentum, a pattern analysts attribute to heightened competition and shifting advertiser tastes.

The AI‑driven search ads use machine‑learning algorithms to craft ad copy, align keywords, and modify bids instantly, seeking to boost relevance and conversion for advertisers. Google indicated that the service will first debut in North America, Europe and certain Asia‑Pacific territories, with plans to roll out to more markets later this year.

Analysts observe that the rollout mirrors a wider trend among leading tech companies to weave generative AI into their flagship offerings. By automating parts of the ad‑creation workflow, Google aims to reduce entry hurdles for small enterprises while enhancing efficiency for large brands running complex campaigns.

Critics warn, however, that depending on AI may spark issues around transparency and brand safety. Advertisers will have to keep an eye on whether algorithm‑produced material conforms to their messaging and regulatory requirements, particularly in regions with stringent advertising laws.

Looking forward, Alphabet’s executives said the AI ad platform will be tied into other Google services—including Shopping and YouTube—to deliver a seamless purchasing experience. The firm also signaled ongoing AI research investment will keep molding its ad ecosystem, implying that upcoming revenue growth could depend on the performance of these automated solutions.
