Alex Gibney Lands Exclusive Interview with Elon Musk’s Father for Upcoming Documentary

Oscar-winning documentarian Alex Gibney announced that his forthcoming film on entrepreneur Elon Musk will feature an interview with Musk’s father, Errol Musk, who consented to talk soon after being approached.

Gibney, whose body of work includes acclaimed investigations like \"Going Clear\" and \"The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley\", has a reputation for delving into the personal side of public personalities. Turning his lens toward Musk—a billionaire who has transformed several industries—continues his exploration of ambition, power and personal background.

The dynamic between Elon Musk and his father has long been a staple of media discussion. Errol Musk, a South African engineer and former pilot, has been called by his son a \"difficult person\", and Musk has hinted at a tense rapport in interviews and on social media. Because Errol has not spoken directly, many details of their relationship remain conjectural.

Adding Errol’s viewpoint introduces a fresh angle for the documentary, which has been described as probing the \"daddy issues\" that could have molded Elon Musk’s ambition and public image. By obtaining a first‑hand narrative, Gibney aims to go past second‑hand stories and give audiences a subtler picture of the family forces shaping the tech magnate’s choices.

Production on the movie is said to be in progress, with shoots occurring at multiple sites linked to Musk’s personal and business life. Although a release date remains unconfirmed, industry sources speculate the documentary may premiere on a streaming service or at a major film festival before year‑end.

Analysts point out that the interview’s timing is noteworthy, given that Musk’s enterprises keep making headlines and his public persona stays at the center of cultural conversation. A frank discussion with his father could illuminate the personal drives behind Musk’s high‑profile projects, from space travel to electric cars.

As the documentary moves toward finalization, both viewers and critics will be keen to see how Gibney weighs the technical triumphs of Musk’s ventures against the more personal—and sometimes contentious—elements of his upbringing. The film is set to deepen public insight into one of the 21st century’s most influential personalities.
